This fairly affluent suburban area of the (east) London Borough of Redbridge straddles the boroughs of Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge, about 12 miles from Charing Cross. After WW1, Chadwell Heath developed as a residential suburb, forming the northern limit of the Becontree estate, and increasing in population.
