This fairly affluent suburban area of the London Borough of Redbridge straddles the boroughs of Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge and lies 12 miles from Charing Cross. After WW1, Chadwell Heath developed as a residential suburb, forming the northern limit of the Becontree estate, and increasing in population. It has formed part of Greater London since 1965 though falls within the Romford postcode. It was the final residence of Eva Hart, a survivor of the RMS Titanic and a local pub is named after her. The A118 road bisects the area.
