After nearly a quarter of a century, the green light has finally been given to redevelop a derelict Basildon site to make way for a new housing estate.
Two major property companies, Inland Homes and Anderson Group have joined forces to build 43 new homes on the three-acre site in Essex which will see 2 large houses that have been boarded up for many years pulled down. The new homes will be a selection of one, two, three and four bedroom properties with 12 set aside as affordable homes.
Local residents living in the Gardiners Close area are extremely relieved that this decision has been reached and it is widely believed that the regeneration scheme will breathe new life into the area.
This is not the only housing scheme planned for the area. In June a further application was submitted for an 89 house development on the site of a former rifle club close by.
These initial plans are part of a wide regeneration initiative which will see the wider Gardiners Lane South area undergo major renovation resulting in 660 new homes and a business space. The scheme could lead to up to 7,000 new jobs being created.
